my son is determined
to break his arm
standing atop our
leather ottoman proud
& grinning as if
he just conqured
kilimanjaro
last week he fell
and wailed until
salt caked his lashes
hysterical he was
comforted with kisses
and coos
i ask my mother
how to keep him
off the furniture
"a boy" she says
"what do you expect?"

Your mother is right. Boys are rambunctious little souls more often than not.
Are you a Madlib listener, or do you just dig the YNQ album covers?
boys will be boys -- make sure you have the quickest route to the nearest hospital mapped out! :-) blessings to you and your young conqueror!
ced: both. it is one of the most beautiful album covers i've ever seen & i also dig madlib & his style.
michelle: lol..luckily for us, we live RIGHT down the street from the hospital.
God knows I would climb, fall, and climb again when I was a kid. I've never broken any limbs as a child though. I got the wind knocked out of me a lot but nothing was broken. Enjoy your weekend!
I know the love of destroying furniture as a child. Nothing like it. Thanks for the suggestions on the poem. Good stuff.
beautiful poem. i grew up with 3 brothers. a lot of things almost happened due to our rough play, but we all made it .... i love what michelle says... my youngest brother helped us all develop the quickest route to the hospital. he was the one who played superman and flew through our living room window screen. he fell but lived... only a bruised kneee. enjoy your son and his adventures. peace and joy, ananda
ps: happy belated mother's day
Listen to your mum, I say. Very nice poem.
I have a boy, and let me tell you, sometimes they give you a HEARTATTACK!!! Just keep a watch on him...he'll br alright..
