Dear America,
you did it, baby. You lived
up to your promise
even though it took
some time, you defied history
& got it right.
dear America,
today I see for the first time
what Jefferson hoped
when you were born
anything was possible
and for the first time
I feel he was right

America is starting to her act toghether, and I'm loving it.
It is the beginning of a shift in consciousness in Amerca.
It is good to be alive.
This is such a blessing! We are here to witness this and it feels so good!
; )
Beautiful poem for a beautiful beginning. I'm so proud of this country--and The Obamas!
I hope this rollercoaster ride continues and we all stay involved in the political process.
Yes, we must continue the good fight!
i am still in shock. my students were so hyped up. for once i think they see that ANYTHING is possible, and not just in the realm of athletics or entertainment, but by sheer intelligence and character. i love it.
thank you all for reading & commenting.
I'm with you. We sure did do it, didn't we? This is a great beginning for ALL Americans.
i will hold judgement on the future of america but will say this is history,
i just hope the red states
dont desire to return to the history pre 1960
Hello there!
Obama won.
It was a phenomenal victory.
McCain didn't even come close.
But...we can not gloss over a few truths that stare us in the face:
Racism is still alive and well in this country.
Classism is still alive and well in this country.
Black people still have battles to fight in order to be TREATED as equals in this country... we have an educational system where black kids are dropping OUT before finishing and the ones who are finishing are functionally illiterate...we still have 70% of black mothers choosing to have illegitimate children ("out of wedlock" children is the more contemporary, least-inflammatory term now)...black women have the HIGHEST rates of HIV in this nation and now black teen girls are having SECOND babies before they even graduate from high school...
Yes...Obama's win was exciting.
We have a battle to fight. Let's stay focused on what REMAINS to be conquered.
Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
Lisa
One day doesn't change 400 years. Let's not forgive or forget because one day the sun shined through a 400 year storm.
You're welcome.
Yes, TPW. The experiment continues. I can hear your theme song from here. :0)
Wishing you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
